If me doing written reviews, videos, livestreams and soon, podcasts isn’t enough for you, I thought I’d start a new feature on the website: game recommendations, with links to buy them!
Full dislcosure: this is an affiliate link, but the cost of me running a website and producing all my content isn’t cheap, and I need all the help I can get!
Each month, I’ll be refreshing or tweaking the games available on my Nexus store. Being an ethical sort of chap, I’ll only be recommending games that I have actually played, and more importantly, firmly believe are good games!
With all that being said, let’s reveal the games for May 2023!
Cult of the Lamb
The smash hit that’s impossible not to enjoy, Cult of the Lamb casts players as a cute little lamb spared from sacrifice to be the vessel of a banished god. It’s cute, it’s creepy, and it’s engrossing as heck. Featuring hack-and-slash combat, skill trees, and charming visuals, Cult is a must-play game – just be sure not to make all of your followers eat poo. Even if it is hilarious.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising
I’m a proud backer of Eiyuden Chronicle, the spiritual successor to the incredible Suikoden games that were on the original PlayStation. Set in the same universe, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising is a side-scrolling beat-em-up with RPG elements and multiple characters to unlock. Better than it has any right to be, this is a decent title that stands on its own, and is worthy of your time.
While it can be a little easy, I thoroughly enjoy its relaxed pace.

Rogue Legacy 2
God help me, I do love a good Metroidvania, and the original Rogue Legacy was a personal favourite of mine when it released. Rogue Legacy 2 takes everything great about the first game and knocks it up a notch. Gone are the pixel art graphics, and hand-drawn visuals take their place.
It’s still top-notch action, though!

Hokko Life
Hokko Life finally gives PC players their very own Animal Crossing-like. Make friends with the charming animal inhabitants of a town as you fix the place up. I particularly enjoy how well it looks and performs on PC, as Animal Crossing on Switch was pretty disappointing, if I’m being honest.
Hokko Life is a game I’ll be sure to stream in the future, so be sure to keep an eye out on my Twitch for that!

Core Keeper
I heard the hype around Core Keeper for the longest time before I finally took the plunge, and boy, was I stoked I did. Following in the footsteps of game slike Terraria, Core Keeper is a survival RPG where you and up to 7 friends (that’s 8 players total) explore the enormous caverns of the game world.
You’ll create incredible bases, defeat harrowing bosses, and generally soak in the atmosphere. This is one you will lose yourself in.

Destiny 2: Legacy Collection (2023)
I don’t remember the last time a game converted me from a naysayer, to a full-blown fan. I was never interested in the Halo games, but when I played the Destiny beta all the way back on PS3, I was blown away.
Combining a gorgeous open-world, RPG elements, FPS action and MMO features, Destiny was a revelation – and Destiny 2 continues to refine the series’ mechanics while featuring a more prominent story. I don’t have enough words to tell you all how amazing this game is.

Return to Monkey Island
Ron Gilbert’s back, and he’s brought back Monkey Island this time!
While I was worried when I first saw the game’s art style (trust me, I complained, I’m sure it’s on the internet somewhere) after the opening scene it just clicked with me. The Secret of Monkey Island and The Curse of Monkey Island (yes, the third one) are two of my all-time favourite video games, and Return to Monkey Island slides right into the series as a worthy modern entry.

Phantom Abyss
Phantom Abyss came out of nowhere to be one of my favourite games of 2021. A first person platformer, it casts players as an explorer making their way through ancient temples, all the while avoiding the terrifying Temple Guardians.
Armed with your trusty whip which can be used for defense as well as platforming, Phantom Abyss’ nifty hook is that you’ll run with the ghosts of other players. Only one person in the entire world can beat the temple, and all the people before you have had their gameplay recorded and replicated. It’s not a race, though, so be careful and look before you leap!
